Stainless steel stove5/1/2023 ![]() That induction range has high wattage induction burners, circuity fans to cool those, we'll see about reliability. My gas appliances are going on 19 years old including the water heater. As it is now i'm on lp, yeah the clown show has caused the price to triple but when shtf i got cooking, hot water, drying cloths, and very modest generator requirements. It's also another high amperage device that takes up 2 slots in service panel and increases your energy requirements during a outage (important if you're in florida). Don't think it's as good, also don't like putzing with glass cooktops. Had induction slide in, it's ok with cast iron. If that air quality was outside it would be an immediate EPA violation. Seems like a pretty damn simple compromise to protect your family and not Darwin yourself out, even if you don't believe the science.Ĭooking with gas indoors destroys your air quality. But it has absolutely been proven and verified by multiple studies that it WILL make you and your family increasingly sick over time.Īnyway, what it all boils down to is that you should slightly crack a window 1/8th of an inch in the kitchen to let in some fresh air and install an electric venting oven hood that exhausts outside if you don't already have one. No, it won't kill you to use it normally. Will the unventilated combustion byproducts of using a gas stove kill you? (If you use it for a prolonged time, such as trying to use it for winter heating in a power outage, it absolutely can, by both CO and oxygen deprivation.) With newer homes that are designed to be practically airtight, it takes much much longer for those byproducts to be dispersed outside, and more often than not they are absorbed at much greater concentrations by the home occupants. People in older houses have been able to get away with this because they have so many leaks throughout their home that their house has a higher air turnover rate that allows the majority of the combustion byproducts to be dispersed and new oxygen is brought into the home pretty quickly. The only difference is that one is being tended by the person cooking and the other turns on unattended in an automated heating cycle. Exact same gas, exact same by-products, exact same result from breathing it in. One is very carefully ducted and vented to the exterior of your home, and one burns as an open flame in the middle of your kitchen. The byproducts of both are mildly toxic, contain carbon monoxide which can be indirectly lethal, and deplete oxygen in the immediate environment. The natural gas that burns in your oven is the exact same natural gas that burns in your water heater. Despite the crap load of thumbs down your comment seems to be getting, it is true that cooking with natural gas indoors is harmful.
